WHO INVENTED THE FOOD PYRAMID AND FOOD GUIDELINES?

Have you ever wondered why our government food guidelines are the way they are, or why they don't make a lot (or any) sense, or why we have the current worldwide epidemics of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases, when most people are following these guidelines?

Here you have your answers, if you didn't already know...

But first, who invented the initial food pyramid, in an attempt to tell people what they should eat to be healthy? I'll tell you: In 1924, a dietitian by the name of Mary Barber designed the first food pyramid. And she worked for this company...... wait for it...

KELLOGGS!!

What group of foods did she put on the bottom of the food pyramid, to tell you to eat the most of?! GRAINS! (see pic)

What do Kelloggs sell most of? GRAINS!


Way back then the food pyramid was designed to get people to eat more GRAINS, to make Kelloggs more profit. It wasn't based on scientific evidence that it was good for you!

And today, the situation is exactly the same.

Just a couple of days ago, the Assistant Federal Minster for Health, David Gillespie MP, sent out a media release highlighting the huge financial costs of diabetes and heart disease. It also mentioned that based on some research, simply eating more fibre from grains could improve our health and (allegedly) prevent a huge number of diabetes and heart disease cases.

On face value, that idea may sound ok to you, except that it was Kelloggs who actually funded that research! (see additional pics) Some 93 years after they first started manipulating the public, they are STILL interfering with government advice and the food guidelines to get you to buy what will increase their profits - GRAINS! (in breakfast cereals, muesli bars, breads, and many other products)

So what's the problem with grains? They are high in carbohydrates, which gets broken down into glucose in the body to cause high blood sugars, and in excess, it will be stored as fat. A lot of recent research shows that grains cause high cholesterol, high blood pressure, inflammation, low energy, IBS, and a lot more symptoms, and conditions such as diabetes and heart disease - the very things which the assistant health minister and Kelloggs are suggesting will prevent! It won't - eating more grains will cause more of these conditions.

The current food guidelines which still advise us to eat 6-11 serves of grains daily, were produced by the Dietitians Association of Australia, who accept a massive amount of sponsorships from food industry corporates like Kelloggs, Sanitarium, Arnotts, Campbells, Nestle and many more... this is a huge conflict of interest and it shows in their unscientific recommendations. The DAA guidelines are about protecting their corporate partners' profits, and not based on independent scientific research or what is best for your health. Hence why you should ignore these guidelines, and eat LESS grains, if you want to be healthier.

A MAJOR CAUSE OF AUTISM FOUND

The incidences of autism spectrum disorders in children has grown massively only in a few decades. While statistics on incidences vary a lot due to a lack of accurate records, the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the following increase over a few years:
In 2003, 30,400 Australians had autism.
In 2009, 64,600 Australians had autism.
In 2012, 115,400 Australians had autism.

In just 9 years, the incidence rate has tripled. Some official US statistics say autism disorders now affect 1 in 68 people, and some much worse than that. This is an epidemic, but little seems to have been done about the prevention or making the public aware of the causes of these conditions. (See the UPDATE at the end of this article - new statistics just in, showing incidences now at 1 in 40 children).

Autism is not a completely genetically inherited trait. The huge increase in incidences over 1-2 generations cannot be scientifically explained just due to genetics. The increased awareness, leading to more diagnosing of this is not the reason either, especially when there actually is no medical test for a diagnosis - as it's based on subjective observations. The science of epigenetics, however, can explain the increase in autism disorders, by showing how environmental toxins and other environmental factors change our genetic expression to cause autism.

A new study published a few days ago (November 2017) has confirmed a large piece of the puzzle on one of the causes of autism – neurotoxic and heavy metal poisoning of the brains in every autistic person tested. In particular, the neurotoxic element aluminium was mentioned in this study entitled “Aluminium in brain tissue in autism”.

Tests were performed on brains of 10 deceased people with autism, to investigate aluminium toxicity. They tested 5 different lobes or areas of the brain for aluminium levels. What they found was shocking – 40% of all tissue samples showed aluminium levels as high, and 67% as having extremely high levels, across all brain regions. This study showed that aluminium is extremely toxic to the brain, was able to cross the blood-brain-barrier, and actually get inside the neurons (brain cells) to cause damage (ie, inflammation) in the brain.

The aluminium levels seen in the study were amongst the highest EVER seen in brain tissue tests. In fact, some of the tissues from children were equivalent to elderly patients with severe Alzheimer’s disease (a chronic inflammatory and degenerative condition, mostly seen in elderly people, and also linked to being caused by aluminium exposure over their entire life).

There are other toxic chemicals linked to causing autism, and other factors too, such as a reduced ability to detoxify environmental toxins, maternal exposure to toxins when pregnant, infections during pregnancy, nutritional deficiencies, gut infections, dysbiosis, and more.

For these environmental causes of autism, there are many things which can be done to reduce the risk, or to detoxify the body of these environmental toxins, and to reduce symptoms. Some easy tests can be done to check for possible heavy metal toxicity, whether for autism or other conditions. This is often done with an inexpensive hair test and other tests, which we can arrange at the clinic. A detailed report will show the results of levels of good minerals, as well as many heavy metals or toxic ones, or how well their body can detoxify (or not).

UPDATE: Interesting timing - the CDC (Centres of Disease Control in the US) released a paper just today showing statistics of the incidences of autism and developmental delays in US children. I've read the report - and it's much worse than the statistics in my article, showing a huge increase in autism and developmental delays in just 2 years since the previous report.
The previous official report said autism was seen in 1 in every 68 children in 2012 to 2014. However in this report from 2014 to 2016, the rate has nearly doubled to 1 in 36! This rate is only for Caucasian children which was the worst result. When all ethnicities are included it's 1 in 40 US children with autism, which is still absolutely shocking.
But what is worse, but not mentioned in the news articles on this were the rates of developmental delays, which is at 7% of all children - this is one child in every 14! Of course these are the "official" rates, with the real rates likely to be even worse.

Something seriously needs to be done to 1) investigate and 2) stop and reverse this.

ARE YOU KILLING YOUR PETS WITH PROCESSED FOODS?

Our pets are just like having another child in the family! They give us companionship, lots of love, and entertainment with far too many animal videos on youtube!

I have seen a few friends having health issues with their cats and dogs very recently, particularly with major kidney issues, which prompted me to write this article on pet health.
Just like our health is dependent on the food we eat, which becomes the ingredients for making our cells, giving us energy, and for our ...bodies to do all the processes we need to stay alive, the same with our pets. Are your pets getting the best nutrition for their health?

Most health issues in humans comes from a diet high in processed foods. Sadly our pets also suffer from having processed foods, which unfortunately makes up MOST of their diets these days - their highly processed dried food or "kibble".

Cats and dogs are carnivorous animals and require lots of high quality protein, much more than humans do. Their natural diets consist of a lot of raw protein from many sources, and a smaller amount of other nutrients. Raw proteins (from meats) contains 70% water, which is important to keep kidney function working well.


Unfortunately the dried kibble food marketed to cats and dogs is not only highly processed, but overcooked (which denatures the proteins and makes a lot of it unavailable for use in their body), dehydrated (very low in water content, which stresses the kidneys and liver), and is also low in quality protein, but high in carbohydrates (mainly grains - which they should NOT be eating).

Processed cat and dog foods, including kibble and even the canned food, makes them unhealthy and reduces their quality of life and their lifespan. These "foods" contain animal byproducts which can't be sold for human consumption, such as expired meat, road kill, GMO grains and starches - none of which are good for their health.

Instead please feed your pets what they are more naturally inclined to eat - mainly raw and unprocessed meat, bones, and some healthy fats and a little veg. They will be much happier for this, and their health and quality of life will be better too! Ask your local butcher for suitable meat offcuts and bones for your pets.

DIABETES: WHY DOES THE USUAL TREATMENT MAKE IT WORSE?

Today is apparently World Diabetes Day (Nov 14), to raise awareness of the condition of diabetes, and to get more funding for the diabetes associations for research into this condition.
Why? When we already know what causes diabetes, and how to reverse it! (This refers to Type 2 Diabetes, although Type 1 symptoms and effects can be greatly reduced, but not completely cleared)

Diabetes is a metabolic condition where blood sugar levels are constantly high due to dysfunctional hormones ...such as insulin, leptin, and ghrelin and others. The body no longer responds correctly to these hormones. High blood glucose is very toxic and damaging to the body, especially to the blood vessels (causing atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, ulcers and loss of blood supply to lower extremities), the nerves (causing loss of sensitivity and feeling in extremities), eye conditions, kidney damage, liver damage and more.

The Diabetes associations worldwide and most dietitians are in denial about what causes diabetes! They blame dietary fat for making people fat, which can lead to diabetes, so they claim. This is so untrue! Then they tell diabetics to eat less fat and more carbohydrates - mainly grains and grain products (breads, cereals, muesli bars, pasta), rice, oats, fruit juice etc.

But it's CARBS which cause high blood sugars! It's the constant intake of high carbohydrate foods which maintain, prolong and worsen the symptoms of diabetes, NOT dietary fats!

But diabetics are told to eat more of the very thing which causes high blood sugar - carbs! Why? It's insane!

I have reversed type 2 diabetes in people who have had the condition for over 10 years, in a couple of weeks! In fact, their fasting blood sugar readings dropped into the normal range within a few days! All because of getting the right scientifically proven nutrition advice and some lifestyle changes, in an easy to follow treatment plan.

If you have diabetes or someone you know does and hasn't been able to improve their symptoms in a few weeks, then I would love to help! Type 2 Diabetes is completely reversible! But it needs to be treated by someone who understands the condition and who focuses on the root causes, and not by someone who wants to just "manage" the symptoms.

NEW CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING - IS IT ANY BETTER?

At a recent (but terrible) cancer prevention presentation at the Qld Cancer Council (see my previous article on sunscreens), it was announced that the National Cervical Screening Program of pap smears for women every 2 years is being replaced as of 1st December 2017. Pap smears are no longer being done as a form of preventative screening. However it appears that not many women know about this change...

The current pap smear tests which check for abnormal cervical cells as a form of... proactive checking against cervical cancer is being replaced by the new Cervical Screening Test (CST). Instead, the CST will only check for the HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), which is one cause of cervical cancer. And the CST will only be required every 5 years instead of 2 years for the pap smear.

The CST will still require the same uncomfortable procedure to obtain cervical cells as the pap smear, just less frequently. Only if the HPV virus is found will someone actually visually check your pap smear for abnormal cells.

The issues here are several:
- The CST test is only looking for ONE possible causative factor of cervical cancer, being the HPV,
- The CST ignores all other possible causes of cervical cancer,
- and the less frequent testing (a money saving measure?) is a concern.

I believe these changes may in fact put more women at risk of cervical cancer. Abnormal cells found in the pap smear test are a better indicator of potential cervical cancer, so why the change?

Recent research (Oct 2017) suggests that an HPV infection alone is NOT sufficient to cause cervical cancer! Cervical cancer, and other reproductive cancers in women, are related to female hormones and often an imbalance between the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. The same research also suggests that an immune system dysfunction and inflammation are also equal causative factors in the development and progression of cervical cancer. Other recent research (Oct 2017) says these other factors are mandatory for the development of cervical cancer. So pap smears or the new CST are simply not good enough screening tests for this type of cancer.

As a better preventative for cervical cancer, or other female cancers, or in fact ANY cancer, you can get your immune system function checked, inflammation levels tested, and female hormone levels tested regularly for a much better picture for the prevention of ALL female reproductive cancers, and for your overall health.
