It has been suspected for a while that talcum powder (ie, baby powder) was linked to ovarian cancers, and it seems that the courts in the USA have agreed with the scientific evidence and ordered the personal and cleaning products company Johnson & Johnson to pay about $100 million (Australian) in compensation to the family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer from using their products.
A search of "talcum powder and cancer" among online scientific research papers finds thousands of studies linking talcum powder to various cancers.
Why would talcum/baby powder cause cancer? Because the powder is a mineral that contains some asbestos in its natural form or from contamination, and asbestos is a known carcinogen (ie, it causes cancer). Asbestos in talcum powder can also cause mesothelioma (fibrosis of the lungs) and potentially lung cancer if it is inhaled, as well as breast tumours and other gynaecological tumours when used on those areas.
For your health and safety and that of your family and friends, if you have any talcum powder, please throw it away! Please share this message so others are informed too.
